The draft Code was launched on August 16, 2001 by the Federal Attorney General, Daryl Williams AM QC and, having undergone public consultation, now awaits registration. Recent amendments to the Privacy Act were necessary to permit the Privacy Commissioner to register a Code which dealt with matters excluded from the legislation. Specifically, these were matters which we chose to include with a view to EU recognition of the Code. Those amendments have now passed the Senate.
