| Who is the Code intended for? |

The Code is intended for subscription by IIA member businesses who either:
(a) provide services on or through the Internet from a location within Australia, orThe breadth of coverage is deliberate because the Code is intended to provide a uniform industry best practice standard for Australia, that extends the obligations that operate under the law. We note in saying that, that other codes can be developed under the law. Nevertheless, we think the commercial advantage that will flow from the higher levels of consumer confidence built into this one, combined with an enforceable* seal program will make it attractive to business subscribers and consumers alike. * under the Privacy Act, registered Codes can be enforced by the Privacy Commissioner. This sets them apart from existing seal programs operating elsewhere, and leverages off the co-regulatory or government-backed nature of the scheme (see below). |
