The Internet Industry Association (IIA) believes that the future of the Internet is dependent upon preserving and enhancing responsible internet content, usage and transactions across the internet industry. In order to achieve this, the IIA has developed a Guide to what it considers to be key values and ideals that all internet businesses should abide by.
10 Point User Protection Code of EthicsWe will respect end user privacy- Our business commits to respect the privacy of end users
- To that end, under no circumstances will we ever provide the email addresses of customers to third parties without prior express consent.
- Furthermore,we will not disclose the personal information of customers to third parties or agencies other than as required by law.
We will implement appropriate security measures- We will take reasonable steps to ensure that commercial information eg.credit card details and other personal information which we may hold is securely stored and deleted when no longer necessary.
- Where providing online transaction facilities we will ensure they are consistent with current industry best practice eg. using encrypted transaction data.
- We will take reasonable steps to ensure thatour in-house IT facilities do not make us the unwitting disseminator ofviruses and other malware.
We will not send spam- We undertake that our commercial email practices will respect the principle of permission and conform with best practice standards and applicable laws in relation to consent of recipients.
- Where we email our customers, we will always give them the ability to opt out should they advise they no longer wish to receive communications fromus.
We will respect legitimate consumer rights- We will publish on our website policies relating to returns and refunds, postage and handling (where applicable) and any other matters relevant to consumer transactions.
- We will provide a contact point on our website for bona fide complaints so that they may be fairly and reasonably resolved.
