ALRC Review

In November 2012 the IIA convened a Taskforce to review the ALRC Issues Paper and draft a submission. The IIA submission is number 253 and can be found here.

There has been a significant amount of interest from industry and the public on this Inquiry with a total of 275 submissions now received, 243 from organisations and 32 from individuals.

The Commission will now review submissions received and release a Discussion Paper following that review at a date to be advised. A Final Report from the ALRC is expected to be delivered to the Attorney-General by 30 November 2013.

Further information can be found here.

Copyright Code Development Group

In March, and in the wake of the iiNet Full Federal Court appeal decision, the IIA announced it would move to develop a code of practice for internet intermediaries to provide clarity and guidance on rights and responsibilities relating to potential authorisation liability.

The goal is to provide industry guidance of safe harbour eligibility and is undertaken in tandem with IIA’s efforts to broaden the legislative criteria for safe harbour eligibility which is currently restricted to carriage service providers in Australia.

The IIA Copyright Code Development Group delivered a submission in relation to the issues paper  “REVISING THE SCOPE OF THE COPYRIGHT ‘SAFE HARBOUR SCHEME’” to the Federal Attorney-General's Department on the 22 November 2011. The submission can be viewed here.
